Financial Controller - Summary

Our Financial Controller is responsible for the financial processing and reporting for multiple businesses. They manage daily processes, payroll, Accounts Receivable and Payable, and maintain tax and other labour and government compliance. The Controller manages the existing administrative team in the largest and most established business while also guiding new and emerging related companies. Reporting directly to the CEO and CFO, the successful candidate will be tasked with both respecting and maintaining existing processes as well as helping to create and build new ones as we continue to grow.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Manage and perform day-to-day financial tasks within the company such as sales and banking transactions, invoicing, payroll, and record keeping.
  • Prepare and review all month-end processing and related reports in both Sage Accpac and Quickbooks.
  • Manage payroll and benefits and maintain accurate personnel records, including compensation and benefits, as required.
  • Preparation and reconciliation of cost reports for ongoing projects.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and present directly to CEO and CFO. Provide monthly reporting to outside accounting firm and banks.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end working papers and work with outside accounting firm.
  • Monitor tax compliance to ensure all applicable taxes are filed and remitted.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding accounting standards, compliance, and best practices.
  • Administrate all current policies and recommend and implement policies, processes, and control improvements across financial and administrative functions.
  • Support fellow managers in other departments with financial analysis and/or reports as needed.
  • Support company initiatives and culture.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accounting degree or diploma. Professional Designation an asset.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Financial Controller experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel), databases, and experience with Easypay, Sage Accpac, and Quickbooks is beneficial. Proven aptitude to learn new programs.
  • Experience managing a finance and administration team.
  • Experience with meeting time-constrained month-end and year-end reporting deadlines.
  • Experience in an office team-based role.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • A fast learner with the ability to take on new tasks.
  • A team player with the ability to also work independently.
